Organizational
Advisory Panel
Leaders from national fire service, EMS and health and safety organizations, working together at one table. Each organization brings its own people, priorities and reach. Together we can do more for the health and safety of firefighters and EMS personnel than any of us could alone.
Better together
Partnership is how Science to the Station works. The organizations on this panel already lead the fire service and EMS world in their own lanes: labor, leadership, safety, standards, cancer support, women in the fire service, research and more.
When those organizations share what they are seeing and line up behind the same questions, research gets aimed at the problems that matter most, resources get built once and shared widely, and good science reaches far more stations than any one group could reach by itself.
No single organization can close the gap between research and the station.
How the panel works
-
Membership
Organizations, not individuals
Seats on the panel belong to organizations. Each member organization has one representative who holds a leadership role in that organization.
-
Joining
By invitation
Organizations join by invitation from Science to the Station leadership.
-
Appointment
The organization decides
Each invited organization appoints its own representative, who serves at the pleasure of that organization's governing body. When leadership changes, the seat stays with the organization.
-
Meetings
Quarterly on Zoom
The panel meets virtually four times a year, with collaboration between member organizations continuing in between.
-
Role
Advisory only
The panel advises. Decisions about Science to the Station are made by the Science Alliance Inc. board of directors.
-
Focus
Partnership & collaboration
The panel looks across the field at how organizations can work together. Science to the Station's own operations are guided by the Steering Committee.
What the panel does
01 · Priorities
Point research where it's needed
Help identify the research priorities that matter most to firefighters and EMS personnel and the organizations that serve them.
02 · Collaboration
Build things together
Collaborate on projects and initiatives across organizations, so good work gets built once and shared by everyone.
03 · Think tank
Make our work better
Act as a think tank to sharpen Science to the Station's resources and help them reach more of the people they are built for.
04 · The pulse
Tell us what's happening
Bring the pulse of the industry to the table: what members are asking about, what is changing and what is coming next.
Partnership in action
A few examples of what happens when organizations bring their strengths together.
With Women in Fire
Reproductive & women's health
Working together on research into reproductive and women's health in the fire service, and turning what we learn into resources fire service women and their providers can use.
With the Firefighter Cancer Support Network
Occupational cancer
Partnering on occupational cancer work, from prevention and early detection to getting firefighters and EMS personnel the information they need to act on it.
Across many organizations
Guides built together
Practical guides developed through collaboration across multiple organizations, each one written for a different audience that shapes firefighter and EMS health.
