of Use.

These Terms of Use (the "Terms") apply to www.science2station.org and every page, tool, download and form on it (the "Site"). The Site is operated by Science Alliance Inc. ("Science Alliance," "we," "us" or "our"), a Kansas nonprofit corporation and 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that runs Science to the Station ("S2S") as one of its programs. By using the Site, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site.

1. What these Terms cover

These Terms cover everything on the Site, including our research summaries (Breaking Science, Research SCANs and infographics), guides and toolkits, videos, the Re-Search tool and other interactive tools, the store, conference pages, member login links and our forms.

Some services we link to have their own terms, including our member and event platform (Member365), payment processors, video platforms and the consent documents for research studies. Where those terms apply to a service, they control for that service, and these Terms cover everything else.

2. Not medical, legal or professional advice

Everything on the Site is for general education. It is not medical, psychological, legal, financial or occupational safety advice, and it does not create a provider and patient relationship or any other professional relationship with you.

• Talk with your own physician or another qualified professional about your health, symptoms, screening, treatment, pregnancy or fitness for duty. Our provider guides are meant to support those conversations, not replace them.
• Nothing on the Site is a standard, regulation, department policy or standard operating procedure. Follow your department's policies, applicable laws and recognized standards.
• Never use the Site in an emergency. If you or someone else needs urgent help, call 911. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 (the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline in the United States).
• Research changes. A resource can be accurate when published and later be updated, qualified or contradicted by new evidence. Check the date on each resource.

3. How we summarize research

Much of the Site translates published, peer-reviewed research into plain language. We work to report each study's findings using the study's own measures, but a summary is shorter than a study and leaves things out, including limitations and context. Where it matters, read the original publication, which we link or cite whenever we can. If a summary and the original study disagree, the original study controls.

Featuring a study does not mean its authors, their institutions or the publisher endorse Science to the Station, or that we endorse every conclusion in the study. Talks, videos and guest content reflect the views of the speakers and authors, not necessarily those of Science Alliance.

If you spot an error, please tell us at info@science-alliance.org. We review every report and correct mistakes.

4. Re-Search and other interactive tools

• Re-Search searches the Site and PubMed, a database run by the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Results are generated automatically. We don't control PubMed or the studies it lists, and the National Library of Medicine does not endorse Science to the Station. A study appearing in results is not a recommendation.
• When a search turns up no S2S resource, we record the search words (not your name or contact details) to decide what to translate next. Our Privacy Policy explains exactly what is recorded and how it is used. Please don't type personal or health information into any search box.
• Interactive tools on the Site explain concepts using published findings and examples. They do not assess, score or diagnose you, and they are not a substitute for professional advice.
• Tools may change, pause or stop working without notice, including when an outside service such as PubMed is unavailable.

5. Sharing our resources

We want our work to reach the station. Unless a resource says otherwise, you may download, print, display and share Science to the Station resources (such as guides, toolkits, Research SCANs and infographics) for free, non-commercial purposes, as long as you:

• keep the resource unchanged and complete, including its credits, logos and dates;
• give credit, for example: "Source: Science to the Station, science2station.org"; and
• don't charge for it or use it to promote a product or service.

Examples of welcome uses: posting an infographic at the station, handing out a guide in training, sharing a link with your crew, using a resource in a department wellness program, a class or a conference talk.

You need our written permission to sell a resource, include it in a paid product or course, change or translate it, combine it into another publication, or use our name or logos in a way that suggests we endorse you. Email info@science-alliance.org. We say yes often.

This permission covers content Science Alliance owns. It does not cover third-party material on the Site, such as published studies, partner logos, outside videos, or photos owned by others. Some resources are co-branded with partner organizations, and those partners own their own names and logos. You may not collect content from the Site in bulk by automated means (other than standard search engine indexing) without our written permission.

Everything else on the Site, including its design, text, graphics, videos and code, is owned by Science Alliance or its licensors and is protected by copyright and other laws. All rights not granted in these Terms are reserved.

6. Our name, partners and endorsements

"Science to the Station," "S2S," our logos and related marks belong to Science Alliance. Don't use them in a way that suggests a partnership, sponsorship or endorsement we haven't agreed to.

Partner and advisory organization names and logos appear on the Site to recognize collaboration. They belong to those organizations, and their appearance is not an endorsement by them of any product, service or position, or by us of theirs. Science to the Station does not endorse commercial products or services. Our funders and sponsors never review, edit or approve our findings or translations.

7. Using the Site responsibly

You agree not to:

• use the Site for anything unlawful, harmful or deceptive;
• impersonate a person, department, agency or organization, or misrepresent your affiliation;
• submit false information through our forms, registrations or orders;
• try to get into accounts, member areas or systems you aren't authorized to use, or interfere with the Site's security or operation;
• upload or send viruses or other harmful code, spam or unsolicited advertising;
• harass, threaten or demean anyone through the Site or our member spaces; or
• copy or reuse Site content beyond what section 5 allows.

We may limit or end anyone's access to the Site or member areas if we believe these Terms have been violated.

8. What you send us

When you use a form, email us, answer a survey or share a story, you confirm that what you send is accurate and yours to share. Our Privacy Policy explains how we use and protect it.

• Don't send sensitive information through general forms, including medical records, details of your own or anyone else's health conditions, Social Security numbers or confidential department information. Our forms are not built for it.
• Ideas and feedback. If you send suggestions about our work or the Site, we may use them freely, with no obligation to you.
• Stories, quotes and photos. We will ask for your permission before we publish your name, words or image, and we will use them only in the way we described when we asked. You can ask us to stop future use at any time.

9. Member accounts and workgroups

Member accounts, workgroups and alliances are hosted on Member365, a third-party platform with its own terms and privacy practices. If you have an account, you are responsible for keeping your login private and your information accurate, and for activity under your account.

Workgroups bring together firefighters and EMS personnel, researchers and clinicians. Please follow our community guidelines, treat others with respect, and keep what others share in confidence. Don't share another member's personal stories, contact information, unpublished data or works in progress outside the group without their permission. We may remove content or suspend an account that breaks these rules.

10. Research studies and surveys

We sometimes share invitations to take part in research led by our team or by partner researchers. Taking part is always voluntary.

• Each study is governed by its own informed consent document and ethics review, usually by an institutional review board (IRB). The consent document, not these Terms, describes what the study involves, what data it collects, the risks and your rights. Read it carefully, and ask the study team any questions before you agree.
• For partner studies, the partner's research team runs the study and is responsible for it. Sharing an invitation is not a guarantee about any study.
• If you tell us through the Site that you're interested in a study, we may share the contact details you provide with that study's research team so they can follow up, as described in our Privacy Policy.
• Survey links on the Site may lead to outside survey platforms with their own terms and privacy practices.

11. Store orders

Purchases from Buy Cool Stuff support Science to the Station. They are purchases, not charitable donations.

• Prices are in U.S. dollars and can change. We may limit quantities, cancel or refund an order that we can't fill, or correct pricing and description errors, even after an order is placed.
• Product photos are representative; colors and details can vary slightly.
• Shipping times are estimates. Tell us right away if your order arrives damaged, defective or wrong, and no later than 30 days after delivery, and we will replace it or refund you.
• Unless a product page says otherwise, we can't accept returns or exchanges for change of mind or size, because many items are produced in small batches or to order.
• Payments are handled by our commerce and payment providers under their terms. We don't store full card numbers.

12. Gifts and support

Support for Science to the Station begins with a conversation through our Fund the Science page. Any gift is made under the terms we agree with you and, where it applies, the terms of the payment platform used. Science Alliance is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, so gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. We provide a receipt for your records; please ask your tax advisor how this applies to you. If a gift was made in error, contact us as soon as possible. Support never buys influence over our research, translations or recommendations, and any recognition is clearly labeled.

13. Conference and events

• Registration. Fees, deadlines, substitution, cancellation and refund rules are posted on each event's registration page, and those rules control. Refunds, when offered, cover registration fees only, not travel or lodging.
• Changes. We may change an event's agenda, speakers, format, schedule or venue. If we cancel an event, we will refund registration fees paid for it.
• Conduct. Everyone at our events is expected to treat others with respect. We may remove anyone whose conduct is unsafe or harassing, without a refund.
• Photos and video. Our events are photographed and recorded. By attending, you agree that Science Alliance may use photos, video and audio in which you appear to share and promote Science to the Station, without payment. If you would rather not be featured, tell staff at check-in, and we will make reasonable efforts to honor that. We will not use a photo to suggest you endorse a product or service.
• Speakers' views are their own. Presentations are for education, not professional advice.

14. Links and outside services

The Site links to and uses outside websites and services, such as PubMed, YouTube, Member365, our website and commerce platform, and partner sites. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices. Your use of them is governed by their terms.

15. Young people

The Site is intended for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. Some programs, such as Fire Camps, serve younger participants. For those programs, a parent or guardian handles registration and consents on the participant's behalf.

16. Accessibility

We want every firefighter and EMS provider to be able to use the Site. If something is hard to use or you need a resource in another format, email info@science-alliance.org and we will work with you.

17. Copyright concerns

If you believe material on the Site infringes your copyright, email info@science-alliance.org with: your contact information; a description of the work; the page where the material appears; a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you own or are authorized to act for the owner of the copyright; and your physical or electronic signature. We will review and respond promptly, and remove material where appropriate.

18. Disclaimer of warranties

We work hard to keep the Site accurate and available, but the Site and everything on it are provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, Science Alliance disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, timeliness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of harmful components, or that any information will suit your circumstances. Any decision you make based on Site content is yours.

19. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Science Alliance and its directors, officers, employees, contractors, volunteers, researchers and partners will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from or related to the Site or these Terms, even if we were told such damages were possible. Our total liability for any claim related to the Site or these Terms is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $100. Some laws do not allow these limits, so some of them may not apply to you.

20. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Science Alliance and its directors, officers, employees, contractors and volunteers from claims, losses and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your violation of these Terms, your misuse of the Site or its content, or content you submit.

21. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Kansas, without regard to conflict of law rules. If a dispute comes up, please contact us first at info@science-alliance.org, and we'll both try in good faith to resolve it informally within 30 days. If we can't, any legal action must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Kansas, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction. Nothing here limits rights you have under laws that can't be waived.

22. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the Site and our programs change. We will post the new version here with a new effective date, and for significant changes we will add a notice on the Site. Using the Site after an update means you accept the updated Terms.

23. Other terms

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any service-specific terms described above, are the entire agreement between you and Science Alliance about the Site. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms; we may transfer ours in connection with a reorganization or transfer of the program. Sections that by their nature should survive (including sections 5, 6 and 17 to 21) survive any end of your use of the Site.
