Science to the Station Fellows

a partnership with the National Fallen Firefighters FoundatioN

What Is an NFFF Fellow?

An NFFF Fellow is a fire service professional selected for a year-long leadership development program through the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Building on the work of the Everyone Goes Home® Advocate network, Fellows receive advanced training in emotional intelligence, communication, organizational change, and research translation—all focused on preventing line-of-duty deaths and injuries.

Fellows participate in a 12–18 month immersive experience that includes seminars led by national experts, in-depth case studies, staff rides, and a capstone practicum tackling a real-world fire service issue. The program is designed to equip emerging leaders to influence culture, policy, and practice at the local, state, and national levels.

Fellowship costs are fully covered by NFFF, including travel and lodging, making it accessible to those ready to lead with purpose, insight, and impact.

What Is an NFFF S2S Fellow?

A small number of NFFF Fellows are selected each year to serve as NFFF S2S Fellows, an advanced role within the Science to the Station initiative that aligns directly with the NFFF Fellow Program’s vision: to equip transformational leaders for the modern fire service.

S2S Fellows aren’t just sharing science—they’re shaping the conversation.

These Fellows serve as trusted national voices who help bring clarity, credibility, and context to emerging science. While the broader S2S platform builds tools, hosts workgroups, and translates research, S2S Fellows focus on cultural translation—bringing visibility and narrative leadership to the most pressing issues in firefighter health and safety.

Expectations of S2S Fellows:

  • Serve as a voice of the fire service in shaping how research is introduced, discussed, and adopted at the field level

  • Engage with national campaigns and emerging science to help shape communication strategy and cultural tone

  • Contribute thought leadership through blog pieces, videos, podcasts, or facilitated discussions that reflect both science and lived fire service experience

  • Participate in select events and serve as ambassadors for both the NFFF Fellow Program and Science to the Station’s mission

This is not a research or content development role—it’s a leadership platform that elevates the voices of Fellows already doing the work of changing minds and shifting culture.
