Top mental health diagnoses include major depressive disorder (67%), alcohol abuse (45%), somatic symptoms and anxiety disorders (33%), and panic disorder (12%). Firefighters with PTSD experience higher stress, lower self-efficacy, and less departmental support. These individuals report lower job satisfaction and recommend against a firefighting career.
